An acne diet is a very interesting idea. Most importantly, who hasn’t heard that eating chocolate gives you zits? I believe we all have. So instead of causing a break out, you could prevent it by watching what you eat.

Although creating a good acne diet can be very hard. This is very personal and its based on your body’s unique response to certain foods. Progress, for the most part, will be trial and error. Monitor your skin closely. Keep a journal. You could keep a photo journal. At the time your skin clears stick the diet plan you were following.

Here are some simple rules to get you started on an acne diet:

* Take in a lot more protein - Many dermatologists are under the belief that protein is connected with clearer skin. They believe this because protein has an enzyme in it that limits oil production. Oily skin has always been susceptible to breakouts.

* Stay away from carbohydrates. - You do not need to cut out carbs completely. But you should keep them limited to about 40 percent of your diet. This is because carbohydrates have compounds in them that can stimulate oil production. This is why junk food has a reputation for causing acne. Actually it is just that junk food is high in carbs.

* Green tea is a must - If at all possible try to drink the real stuff. The kind of green tea that you brew is the best kind. You may not like the real stuff so the green tea drinks will work. Green tea holds back androgen production. Androgen is a hormone that will wreak havoc on your skin.

* You must restrict the amount of salt you take in - Salt most always contains iodine. This is the reason why you hear table salt called “iodized salt.” For some with acne, iodine an cause major inflammation.

While watching what you eat, you should also be very careful with what you put on your face. If you have acne you are probably already more aware than most people of the ingredients in your beauty products. Look for oil-free moisturizers and natural or organic skin care lines. These are least likely to cause a breakout. You might want to start buying mineral makeup, that is if you wear makeup. By using mineral makeup you may actually ease acne problems and increase the results of your acne diet.
